I have a level 4 diploma in therapeutic counselling and a diploma in children's and young peoples psychotherapy. I am continuing my training by studying a BA (hons) in counselling solutions. I have worked with many different people in a range of different settings, including schools, prisons, domestic and sexual abuse and violence organisations and bereavement charities. This has helped me to develop as a counsellor by giving me a broad spectrum of life issues to work with.
I currently work in private practice supporting adults and young people. I also work in schools within West Yorkshire, supporting children teens and young adults from the age of 3-21 years.
My initial training was in person-centred counselling. This enabled me to understand the importance of the relationship between a client and their counsellor. I gained experience in being able to listen empathically and without judgement. Person centred counselling is a non-directive approach to talking therapy in which the client leads and the therapist views the problem from a client's perspective.
Further training and completion of my degree in integrative counselling have given me the skills and knowledge to use a range of different theories and techniques. I will match the therapy to suit the individual and create a treatment plan unique to you, meaning that you will receive a tailored approach to best support your needs.
I am trained in theories such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) motivational interviewing, psychodynamic theories, Solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) and systemic theory.
I also use creative approaches, including play therapy when working with children and young people.
